To foster the development of reading, writing and oral skills an oratorical event “Straight From My Heart” will run for the month of February at Terry Fox Elementary School. Your child is invited to participate. For this event, parents are being asked to work with their child preparing and practicing his or her presentation at home. Your child’s Language Arts teacher will let her/him know when s/he is to present to the class. The timeline is as follows: February 3-16 Students will be preparing presentation at home. February 17-21 “Speak-offs” will be held at the school. February 27 An evening event (6:00-8:00) will be held in which selected students will present to the public. There will be three divisions: Grades K-1 Grades 2-3 Grades 4-5 Students will be required to present a 2-3 min. oratorical presentation. Type of presentations may include: Grades K-1 An oral presentation about a special object, person or event. It may be supported by the object itself or pictures (no power points). It should be practiced before presenting to class. Grades 2-3 A personal recall or original story. It should be written on cue cards and practiced prior to presenting to class. Grades 4-5 A informative or persuasive speech. It should be written on cue cards and practiced prior to presenting to class.
